Wow! India will certainly be a culture shock since it’s your first trip out of Canada, but with good planning you should have a wonderful time.

As far as what to see in India, I would say it depends on your interests. But one of the most popular itineraries is Delhi – Agra – Jaipur (Rajasthan). I would also recommend Khajuraho and Bandhavgarh (for tigers). The Taj Mahal is located in Agra and is an absolute must see. Jaipur is a great city – many sights – beautiful architecture. There are plenty of other places to see and you will get many suggestions here. There are also a lot of good tips here on the various pages (by city). Research a lot before you decide.

India can be a rough place to travel so you need to consider how you will get around. Many people do travel by train but it can be more than an adventure! There are decent low cost airlines for longer distances. The itinerary that I mentioned above is easily done by car/taxi (it’s inexpensive).

Once you settle on an itinerary you can research accommodations which vary greatly in both price and quality. All of us will give you the standard warnings: only drink bottled water (with the seal intact), don’t eat raw foods, etc.

I would recommend you fly in to India and start your trip with the Indian Capital.
